Jefferson @ Clinton
Tuesday, November 30, 2010
From the opening jump the J-Hawks came out on a mission to return to the style of play that rewarded them a State Playoff birth last year. Jefferson looked to push the tempo on the offensive and defensive end. Returning three starters that includes All-State post Jarrod Uthoff the J-Hawks jumped on the River Kings early. Nine players entered the game in the first half all of which contributed the same pesky defense that forced Clinton into several early turnovers that lead to lay-ups in the transition.
Taylor Olson and Tyler Meiborg gave Jefferson solid guard play creating shots for themselves and their teammates. Uthoff capped two quarters of play with 18 points while Alec Saunders contributed 9. Going into halftime the scoreboard showed 45-10 in favor of the J-Hawks.
The second half started with the newly initiated 35-point continuous clock. In the third quarter Jefferson continued their dominance scoring 21 and holding Clinton scoreless. Uthoff added a pop to an already energetic crowd with two dunks; both rising up over the River King defenders. The starters exited in the third quarter. Uthoff left with a game-high 29 points and 7 rebounds. The J-Hawks were able to clear their bench in the fourth and final frame. The J-Hawks wrapped up their opening game with a 75-20 victory.
The J-Hawks next game will be Saturday at home against Davenport North. The game will be in the afternoon with the sophomore game tipping off at 1:00PM.
The J-Hawk sophomores came out of the gate at full stride and didn’t pull up the reins until the final horn. At the half Jefferson held a 51-28 lead. With the continuous clock running halfway through the third quarter the J-Hawks ended their first game of the year with a 86-41 victory.
